CARING FOR THE COMMUNITY
When the staff of Ellerines celebrated the company’s big 60th birthday, they made a decision which is true to the brand’s community ethos. They decided that rather than throw a big bash for themselves, they would celebrate this momentous occasion by collecting toys for two charities chosen by Head Office — The Salvation Army’s Ethembeni Place of Hope and Noah (Nurturing Orphans of Aids for Humanity.)
A competition was held between the branches to see which branch could collect the most toys, with the winning branch receiving a grand prize … a lavish staff party with all the trimmings.
The branch which collected the most toys was Ellerines in Zeerust whose grand total was a staggering 1 855 toys. “We just went for it!” said Zeerust Branch Manager Magiel Oosthuizen. “The staff were fabulous and lost no time in getting their customers involved. We also ran a competition, with the sponsor donating a prize to the class that collected the most toys at a local primary school. Add this to our newspaper advert (printed free of charge by our local paper) and donations from a local crèche and general well-wishers and we had a winning haul. Ellerines in Zeerust decided to hand over the toys they collected to the NG Welfare in Zeerust, who have a day-care centre and orphanage.
Second place in the competition went to Savells Fairdeal in Cradock who collected 480 toys.
Third place went to Town Talk in Evander who collected 400 toys.
We’re not playing when we say that when it comes to Caring for the Community
Ellerines staff give with all their hearts.
